Paddock Art Studios in Artwave 2024

Artwave is the opportunity for the Paddock to show the world the range of creative activites that go on in our studios. There are seven studios to visit:

Rowena Williams Paddock Studio Pottery

I work in stoneware clay to produce a range of domestic ware that is inspired by the coastline of Sussex. I also make one-off pieces using the Raku firing technique. Both will be available to see and/or buy at Paddock Art Studios this Artwave. Pottery taster sessions and day courses are available.

Lewes mosaic makers

We are a small group of enthusiastic mosaic makers meeting throughout the year to share our love of all things mosaic. We have a creative and experimental approach, a mixture of traditional mosaic techniques and repurposing old china and tile. If you are interested in discovering more, and a place is available, you can try a drop-in session for a small fee. We also occasionally run taster workshops.

Louise Gorst

Louise Gorst is a local artist and art tutor. Her work is inspired by the gestures, expression and rhythms in dance, movement, music and nature. She has a passion for spontaneous mark-making processes and combines drawing, printmaking, collage and painting. Often working in a series of 9, she explores themes of form and movement, expression and reflection, order and chaos.

Jeanne McNair and Claire Mumford, printmakers

Jeanne and Claire share the use of the ground floor Print studio. Jeanne’s linocut and woodcut prints feature faces and figures, often using chine collé (collage) to add colour and texture. She also works in drypoint. jeannemcnair@hotmail.com

Claire’s prints are influenced by mythology and folk art, using linocut, woodcut, collagraph, monotype and drypoint. She has recently been experimenting with botanical solar prints. Claire’s work can be seen on Instagram @claire_mumford_prints and on Etsy at clairemumfordprints.etsy.com

Paddock members’ exhibition

Every year during Artwave the main studio at the Paddock is transformed into a gallery to show work by our members. Last year there were over 120 works by 44 artists on show. The range is tremendous: paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture...

Rosie Good in the Stable Gallery

I studied in London but now live and work in Lewes. I am interested in the landscape and the way things change over time, including coastal erosion and abandonment. In the
last couple of years, I have spent time looking at views and structures including Shoreham cement works, The North Street quarter, Horsebridge Mill and Cuckmere Haven.
‘Wastelands and wonderlands’ is a look at some of those hidden gems hiding in plain sight.
